There are several things your iPhone can do that you most probably didn't know about but here are 5 out of the many tricks that may somehow be helpful to you.
1. Make your phone self destruct
This doesn't mean self destruct that you see in movies, it simply mean your data would be erased from the phone if your passcode is tried 10 times. I know this sounds risky but there's a really slim chance of your partner, friend or child trying your passcode that many times because once they try 5 times the phone starts to give time duration before the next trial, only someone dedicated to knowing the contents of your phone would actually do.
Here's how you activate it:
- Got to Settings
- Scroll down to Touch ID and passcode.
- You'd be requested to input your passcode
- Toogle the Erase Data setting to the on position
2. Track your Menstrual Cycle
Ladies have you ever miscalculated your cycle and ended up rushing to get tampons or pads last minute? Well worry no more as Apple introduced this feature to it's health app. It requires you input some menstrual related info such as flow rates, your usual length of cycle, time of the last period and others.
How it works
- Open the Health App on your apple device
- Tap the Search tab located at the bottom right of the screen
- Select Cycle Tracking
- Click Options to start inputting your data
- You're all set
3. Automatically close Tabs on Safari
This is a really cool feature on Safari. It allows you choose a specific time in which all inactive tabs would be closed. This feature is especially useful if you're a heavy browser user and you need your browser always running smoothly.
How to set it up
- Open the Settings app
- Tap Safari
- Tap Close Tabs
- You're free to choose your preferred timeline to close it starting from everyday, every week, every month and leave it to manual mode
4. Add Multiple Faces to Face ID
Every new iPhone now comes with FaceID as a more advanced form of security except the new iPhone SE but previously on iOS 11 you were only allowed to record one face which means no one else could unlock the device except they know your passcode. Now Apple has given users chance to register more than one face for the Face ID to unlock the device.
How to set it up
- Go to Settings app on your device
- Tap Face ID and Passcode
- You'd be required to input your passcode before continuing
- Tap alternative appearance.
- Scan the face and Follow the prompts.
5. Measure Objects with your iPhone
You might not really need this feature but it's cool to know you can easily measure any object using your iPhone. Note this isn't 100% accurate as using a tape and was added as an upgrade in the iOS 12.
How it works
- Open the Measure App
- Move your iPhone around so the device can analyze the area
- Hold your iPhone so the camera is pointing at the object you want to measure
- Move your iPhone around until you see a white circle with dot in the middle
- Line the white dot up with the edge of the item you want to measure.
- Press the white button the + sign.
- Drag to the opposite edge of the item.
- Press the white button with the + sign again.
- The app will display the estimated measurement.
It's amazing how much hidden features can be in a phone. Pretty much like treasures to be discovered. Which of these features would you love to try out the most? Let me know in the comment section
